I Really Want to be Here is a stage ensemble contemporary dance-theatre performance created and performed by Gülsen Özer, Dani-Ela Kayler and Gareth Hart. Poignant and at times hilarious the work deals with themes of social contract theory, taboo, and fitting in. First performed at Victoria University 3D Fest showcase, 2004 and then at Malthouse Theatre during their Education Season, as well as the Arts Centre Melbourne during the Short and Sweet play festival, 2005.
Gulsen Ozer, Dani-Ela Kayler and Gareth Hart came to the attention of Malthouse theatre through her involvement in the 2004 3DFest. ‘I really want to be here’ received glowing feedback from the Industry Pannel and was subsequently selected to be showcased in the Merlyn Theatre, going on to win a major Development Award through the Malthouse Development Program. The piece impressed with it’s exploration of form, its detailed observation of life and the skill and focus of the performers. These artists have continually demonstrated a strong commitment to their chosen craft and the ability to work in a professional environment. We highly recommend these artists in all thier future creative endeavors. Meg Upton – Education Program Manager.
