D-Tales. Choreographed by Dani-Ela Kayler in collaboration with Gülsen Ozer and Maan Adriano. Presented at Dancehouse, Melbourne (2005).
Odd gropings and gathering gestures of the opening giving way to obsessive itchy and grooming behavior - pointing us to an appreciation of the body, not simply as a source of beautiful movements and spatial arrangements, but to something more troubling and intimate - as a source of disturbing sensations and knowledge which problematizes habitual perception. Strong moments were those which focused on intimate movements and interactions the, dare I say it, de-tails of small gestures, of the quotidian, of those odd and inherited physical signals that come from spaces deep inside but which manage to find their way to the outside when we least expect them. Review by Tim White …The centerpiece of the night, d-tale, is the only piece that shows girls working together in a truly collaborative atmosphere. d-tale is most aware of performing to an audience, making the other works seem a little self absorbed. Lightbulbs are scattered on the floor adding a magical atmosphere to the piece. The three girls are fairly like in their movements and are able to work well together, moulding their bodies into different shapes and evoking different personalities and emotions. The performance is filled with little moments of pondering… …d-tale is, to paraphrase the girls, "beautiful, ephemeral - and gone". http://www.theprogram.net.au |
